Flash Isn’t Fun
First developed by SmartSketch, Flash Micromedia gained in popularity in the mid-to-late 1990s. In recent years, HTML5/CSS/JavaScript have been gaining in popularity and causing the downturn of Flash. A mobile application for reading Flash was released in late 2009, but stopped being supported immediately after. While HTML5/CSS/JavaScript are more popular, many still insist on using Flash on their sites or as a part of them… here are some reasons why you should think twice!
- iPhones/iPads do not support flash- so sites or elements of them that are in Flash, won’t load
- Phones/Tablets that aren’t made by Apple are slow to load Flash
- Flash doesn’t help your SEO
- Flash is more costly to update, as well as the software to build it
- Flash loads slower on computers than most alternatives
- Flash is not open-source or free to use
- Unless you speak Flash you cannot update the content yourself
Are you second-guessing the flash elements on your website now? Don’t worry- we can easily replace them!
